One of the most beloved sci-fi adventures of the 80s, Back to the Future, returns in 2024 with a fresh take on Marty McFly and his time-traveling adventures. While keeping the iconic DeLorean and thrilling plot twists, the reboot explores modern themes and has updated visual effects. Fans of the original can expect a respectful homage to the first film, while newcomers will enjoy an adventure that blends classic elements with today’s cinematic style. As much as people complain about Hollywood putting out the same things year after year, the fact remains that name recognition gets people into theater seats.
Whether you’re ready to embrace the return of classics like The Chronicles of Narnia or more skeptical of spin-offs like Neagley and Vought Rising, the constant flood of content ensures there’s something for everyone. As we head into 2025, it looks like Hollywood’s motto will continue to be, “If it ain’t broke, reboot it.” The delightful world of Inside Out is expanding with Dream Productions, a new spin-off series that dives into the whimsical and sometimes chaotic world of Riley’s dreams. In Inside Out, we got a glimpse of how emotions like Joy, Sadness, and Anger manage Riley’s day-to-day experiences, but now it’s time to explore what happens when she sleeps. Dream Productions will focus on the team responsible for creating Riley’s dreams and nightmares, showing the challenges they face in producing cinematic experiences every night.

Nathan Fillion’s take on the Green Lantern, known as Guy Gardner, is a great recreation of the character from the ’80s and ’90s comics. At first glance the series looks ridiculous, which no doubt means it’ll be risking it all for some big laughs. Powell himself is on board as a co-creator and writer of the pilot episode, and if his work on Hit Man is anything to go by, we’re already looking at a touchdown for best TV shows of the year.
Fans of Reacher will be thrilled to know that Frances Neagley, one of the most beloved characters in the series, is getting her own spin-off. Neagley will follow the tough, no-nonsense private investigator as she tackles new mysteries and dangerous cases, using her unique set of skills to solve crimes in her own way. While Jack Reacher himself might make a cameo or two, this series will give Neagley the spotlight she deserves, exploring her backstory and delving into the personal challenges she faces as a woman in a male-dominated world of crime and justice. Maria Sten, who portrays Neagley, has become a fan favorite for her portrayal of the character, and this spin-off is expected to showcase even more of her badassery and intelligence. One Tree Hill was one of the longest-running teen dramas on TV, lasting nine seasons from 2003 to 2012. Back in August, it was announced that the series would be getting a sequel on Netflix.

Out of the 49 big films set to hit the screens, more than half are sequels, spin-offs, or reboots. We’re talking Marvel, DC, and even a fresh take on the 1996 classic, Twister. The television industry’s obsession with reboots and revivals is still going strong. The original film was incredibly terrifying, leaving viewers eager for more horror films that could evoke genuine scares as it did. Despite being movie guide over forty years old, Exorcist is still considered a game-changer in the horror genre and has gained a dedicated following. The question on many minds is if the upcoming remake, set to be released on October 13, will live up to its reputation.
McFarlane told ComicBook that he feels confident about where that script, which features the working title “King Spawn,” is headed. “There’s a script but the writers are, they’re not quite sort of satisfied with their own work, which is what all of us creative people are,” he said. Keeping with a trend set by recent productions like “Deadpool and Wolverine,” “King Spawn” will be an R-rated superhero film. Fans of Todd McFarlane’s comic book antihero Spawn have been waiting ages to see their favorite franchise rebooted onscreen. And while it seems they might need to wait a little bit longer, McFarlane says there is hope the project will be moving forward in the future. The Spawn storyline integrates demonic and supernatural elements into the tale of a deceased CIA agent who strikes a Faustian deal to become a demon-infused vigilante.
A spinoff of The Office is coming to Peacock, and based on the 27,126 average monthly searches, fans are excited! We know that the new show will follow a dying Midwestern newspaper, and stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore. Writer and director James Watkins, who made The Woman in Black, will attempt to reimagine Speak No Evil for American audiences. The Blumhouse production stars James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis as the host family and Scoot McNairy and Alix West Lefler as the intruders.
But you probably have heard of the people involved in the upcoming remake of the show, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch and Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce. As that lineup suggests, The Fall Guy will go for a mix of humor and action, especially with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in the lead roles. Yes, reboots often take significant liberties with the original story, setting, and characters. While they may retain some core elements, they can introduce new plots, settings, or character dynamics to offer a fresh take on the story. The original Planet of the Apes (1968), directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, is considered a classic of New Hollywood cinema. It was even added to the National Film Registry for its cultural significance.

A reboot resets a franchise’s continuity, introducing a new story that often ignores previous entries while retaining some elements like characters or settings. A remake, on the other hand, reinterprets an existing film or show, usually aiming to stay true to the original’s plot and style. The 2024 Mean Girls reboot isn’t simply a remake of the 2004 classic but an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. This version brings more songs, more sass, and a whole new vibe while still capturing the original’s iconic high school drama. It all started with Sam Raimi’s original trilogy (2002–2007), starring Tobey Maguire.
The reboot’s cast includes Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son and Nicholas Lyndhurst as his college buddy, although David Hyde Pierce is sadly not back as Frasier’s brother Niles. “David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles,” according to Grammer. The seventh entry in the franchise offers pure nostalgia and escapism from the beloved Hasbro Toys series. Thus, hardcore fans of the franchise would appreciate it very much while new fans, who haven’t seen the prior movies, can also enjoy it since it has a clear reboot vibe to it. Moreover, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and fans in terms of the narrative, the movie did well at the box office, much like its predecessors.
The creator of One Tree Hill, Mark Schwahn, is not attached to the series, having been called out for sexual harassment by the female cast of the series back in 2017. Fans look forward to this new take on the series, with Burton commenting that showrunner Becky Hartman Edwards’ expertise at writing female characters would be a much-needed update. Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield are all set to reprise their roles as the iconic Wilkerson family, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark being the only cast member to be recast. New additions to the cast include Anthony Timpano as Jamie, Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend, Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, and Vaughan Murrae as the youngest Wilkerson sibling. The good news is that the ball still seems to be rolling, with McFarlane revealing that “Joker” writer Scott Silver and others have been hard at work on the script.
“The X-Files” was previously revived for two more seasons on Fox from 2016 to 2018. In 2022, Variety reported that “Futurama” would return again, this time on the Hulu streaming service. Original cast members Katey Sagal, Billy West, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and others immediately signed up to reprise their roles, while John DiMaggio — the voice of Bender — joined the project following a pay dispute.
The movies have collectively grossed over $1.3Billion (around £1Billion) at the box office. Washington and Fanning, who previously collaborated in Man on Fire, will have an explosive on-screen reunion, as Washington and director Antoine Fuqua once more work together. Additionally, as demonstrated in the most recent trailer released by Sony, the third installment will be packed with tons of action and thrills like the previous one, so fans of the franchise or Washington alone can sit tight and wait for September to come. Cleese presumably found a way, because in 2023, he announced a “Fawlty Towers” revival was imminent.
